Womens 1st XI vs Maldon 2

Romford ladies didn't have the best start to the game against Maldon 2s, there was an unfortunate lack of communication during the first half, with lots of watching the ball and a limited number of tackles, which allowed the opposition to run through players and spend plenty of time in possesion of the ball. There was a needed change in formation as Emma dropped into midfield to help close down the oppositions midfield players, taking the formation from 3,4,3 to 3,5,2 and helping to slow the attacks down

Both goals from the opposition were scored in the first half, the first one being a shot taken from the P spot and slipping through Lisa's legs. The second was a raised ball into the goal.

At half time there was discussion amongst the team with input from those watching on the sidelines. It was agreed that there was too much space between the forwards and midfielders, the team was urged to be more aggressive and to work with and support eachother. More communication was encouraged.

This advice was used well, and a clear difference could be seen the second half, with players in defence moving further up the pitch, allowing the team to move forward together and closing any gaps. Romford was able to put sustained pressure on the opposition and if the opposition gained possesion, Romford players were able to prevent the ball from reaching the half way line, using a strong press and tackles, this allowed Romford to maintain good possession in the oppositions half, attacking in numbers and using strong passes, which resulted in winning a total of six short corners. The opposition's keeper had a strong performance, stopping a number of shots, however Romford was able to win a goal through a short, with Loz slipping the ball Ellie, who then passed it to Emma who was ready at the post and flicked it past the keeper.
