Despite a few injuries and sickness in the squad, Romford started the game strong putting together some great attacks from the off. Unfortunately, Witham took advantage of the bouncy home pitch and sent a ball into the D which caught an unfortunate bobble from a defenders stick to put them 1-0 up against the run of play.
Romford rallied together and the midfield of Lucy, Kemi, Katie and Abi set about providing great balls to the forwards of Ellie and Sonata. Romford were award a short corner shortly after and despite the initial save, a second resulted in Sonata scoring a great goal to bring the game back level.
Romford continued to pressure Witham and Captain Katie ran a great ball from a free hit round the D to score a great stroke from the top of the D to give Romford the lead. Continued pressure from Romford saw a third goal scored by MOM Sonata just before the half time break.
Going into the second half, Romford continued to pressure, some excellent saves from GK Lisa ensured that Witham were kept at bay with their attacks. Witham found a way through mid way through the second half to bring the score back to 2-3. Romford continued to attack but we’re not rewarded with anything unfortunately. Witham then pushed back and won a series of short corners. Some fantastic defending by Nat and Lisa ensured they didn’t score. The defence of Nat, Pippa, Leah and Loz continued to be pounded in the final stages of the game and Witham were rewarded with another unfortunate own goal, to bring the score level just before the close.
Points were shared again this week but, there were some great positive from this game which Romford will take through to next week.
