Womens 1st XI vs Southend & Benfleet 1

With an earlier than normal start and the defence at full strength with the return of Steph and Cienna, Romford Ladies 1s were feeling confident.

Romford took some time in the first half to settle allowing Southend & Benfleet 1s to gain momentum, putting the Romford defence under continuous pressure. Luckily the defence and de facto defender Loz were on top form, with great tackles and defensive play keeping Southend & Benfleet at bay.

Outstanding play in the last 5 minutes of the first half nearly led to the first goal with a brilliant solo run from Kemi, finding Emma. A good save from Southend & Benfleet denied Emma her first goal of the season.

After a inspiring team talk from Stuart, Romford were buoyed and ready to build on the first half. However, very strong play from Southend & Benfleet midfield and two strikers kept pressure on Romford constantly. Goalkeeper Lisa kept the home team’s sheet clean with outstanding saves and clearances. But, this was not sustainable and eventually a short corner led to a Southend & Benfleet goal.

Captain Katie made a change of formation up front, in the last 10 minutes and despite the continuous running by the midfield, Romford struggled to hold the ball and build play. Final score Romford Ladies 1s 0 - Southend & Benfleet 1s 1.
